inhumanity.

One of the most interesting dilemmas within any conquest of thought involving religion or the past or the future of any sort must deal with our souls in some regard. As we move through the world, our minds are touched by a multitude of differing ideas, of opposite ideals and moral codes, and we must find a way to navigate this world as we allow ourselves to. We must allow ourselves to understand the world by only allowing ourselves to understand the things the world has touched us with.

I have this theory, or statement, that the thing that breeds inhumanity is ignorance. The thing that has caused the atrocities within the world is ignorance. Perhaps this is wrong, but I think the point must be understood at least in order to understand what inhumanity is.

Ignorance is unlocked, or, rather ignorance is held by itself. It mustn’t move, and it must be held only by the thing we do not know, as that is what ignorance is. Ignorance is the very thing we do not know because we do not know it. We are unable to be knowledgeable of something if we have no idea what it is we should be knowledgeable of. And while some would say ignorance is bliss, and possibly point directly to the beginning of time - to the garden of eden to say, Adam and Eve were peaceful and blissful as they didn’t know. But I would argue they were not ignorant. There is no way you can be ignorant of something if you know it exists. This is the opposite of ignorance is it not? Ignorance is not protection and safety, ignorance is the absence of such a thing. If you do not know there are boundaries, then there are no boundaries for you to push. You will stay secluded to your own humanity, you will stay within yourself, and nothing outside of that will be something upon which you will desire to unlock. That is the opposite of what the Garden held. There was no ignorance within the safety that they were provided, rather there was safety in them knowing what not to do. They were not ignorant that they were naked, but there was no sinfulness within it. Why should there be sinfulness of experiencing our humanity as it truly is? There shouldn’t be. (this is not me saying we should all be naked.) This is what people often point to when they attempt to claim that they were ignorant. I would argue the opposite simply because ignorance only comes out of you not knowing there is something there. It is not making a decision to not know, it is in not realizing there is a decision to be made at all.

The point I am trying to make here as I bounce around ignorance and what it truly is not, is that our souls become infected by our ignorance. Moving back to move forwards is needed here, so I will bring it back to my first point of contention - ignorance breeds inhumanity.

Inhumanity, in my estimation, is a full loss of anything that makes you human. You lose the ability to think for yourself, to be within yourself and within the world at the same time. We lose the ability to create, we lose the ability to be truly human. Inhumanity is the loss of anything that makes us human, we are simply things that then sit upon this rock that hurls through nothingness. That is exactly what ignorance breeds.

If we are unable to know something as we do not know it is there, then we will lose the very exploration of life itself that we need so desperately in order to live within the world. If we are unable to make a decision to listen to our creator, then are we simply animals programmed to live as simply as we can? Or are we animals that are able to understand the purity in our ability to listen and make decisions that we then can force change to happen, to cause a shift in our world for the better? I would argue if we do not have that ability then the world crumbles. It allows the shell of every person to become the person they are, rather than allowing their full self to be encapsulated by the ignorance that has stripped every ounce of humanity from them.

If we look through history we encounter moments of death, of sheer death. Which is a pure stamp of time in which inhumanity has reigned. Perhaps WW1 would not have occurred had people not been ignorant to the idea that humanity works best when we are not bickering over boundary lines and practicing things that cause the destruction of the things we chase. There was ignorance in the fact they had no idea the destruction would strip humanity from millions of people. They knew what they were doing was causing a shift in the world, but perhaps they were so blind within their ignorance that they believed themselves to be doing good. Ignorance breeds inhumanity because it causes the self to believe the very thing it is attempting to render better. It has caused many men to falter as they believe themselves to be good men, and they are unable to see the very thing they are attempting not to be as they become that thing. Inhuman people are blinded by the humanity they believe themselves to be a part of when truly, they only see inhumanity.

With this all said, we must understand what this means for our souls. If ignorance is truly so harmful, what must we do to shield our souls from the hardship and death that can also be caused by knowledge and wisdom?

I don’t know.

But truly that is exactly why I think it is such a thing we must be purposeful about. Something we must understand eventually, but me, in my 18 year old mind, truly doesn’t have an answer for this dilemma right now. Perhaps I will, but as of this moment, I only know that if I become ignorant then my soul will suffer as it will be held only by the inhumanity the world seeks to provide to everyone. That, that is something I want no part of. And if my soul suffers because of the opposite of ignorance, then so be it, because at least I will know that I am suffering. It is better to suffer while you know you are suffering, because then you can move about and shift and attempt to understand. But if we suffer in ignorance then we will suffer in silence from ourselves, unknowingly fading into oblivion as we are unable to unlock the thing that blinds us.

And with that odd send off, peace. war.
